Grove Inn Story

Rich in history, The Grove Inn is one of San Francisco’s oldest boarding houses. This 3-story Italianate-Victorian style building was constructed in 1865 during the Gold Rush era. The original operating certificate dated March 11th, 1865, lists a mere $1.35 nightly rate. The boarding house comprised shared and private baths, with all rooms featuring a simple wash basin.

The current owners Rosetta and Klaus Zimmermann purchased the Grove Inn in 1983, shortly after a fire occurred, causing severe damage to the East portion of the property. Working together, they restored the property, making it ready to welcome guests from around the world.

In 2014, the property underwent extensive infrastructural seismic retrofit and room upgrades, making it very safe should another earthquake strike San Francisco.

In 2020, during Covid, unable to host our dear guests, we chose to see the silver lining by completely refreshing The Grove Inn. Although we’ve modernized the Inn, guests will still be charmed by our original Victorian features, large bay windows and perfect San Francisco vibe. All that is paired with the modern-day conveniences.

We invite you to be a part of our next chapter!
